Environment concept art(The End of a long journey)

I like to create all types of concept art. This concept is in its early stages. I will show further progress as I move along.

Thought Process

What is the types of thought process I needed to form this concept art? I wanted to capture a claustrophobic nature of this scene. The narrow canyon walls with the Cercecipio a creature native to Atas. This is a very important artwork because it was the launching pad for my graphic novel The Cosmic Enigma.

The Cerecipio add a dangerous element to art even part horror. The main body of the creature appears like a human brain suggesting a carnivorous diet. These creatures will be expanded upon in further artwork, and concepts. The End of a Long Journey as a title seem appropriate. The ship is moving out from the darkness into safety. The world depicted is gritty despite not being a real place.

My art techniques and styles

I went for more of a realistic style for this work, or at least Iā€™m attempting to. Imaginative realism is needed when going for realism. I was still learning digital art when making this work. Under utilizing layers are one of my biggest faults with this piece. Believe me creating a painting with one layer makes it more difficult. Perhaps learning more about Corel Painter could of helped me finish this quicker. The use of limited colors was something learned from this.

Software used for digital art

The types of software for this can be diverse. Photoshop is the common software used for creating concept art, and the industry standard. I still use Photoshop for editing I prefer Corel Painter to create my art. Other options include Clip Studio Paint which is great for comic design, and Procreate for mobile options. Continued Below.

Inspiration

A scenic route through the cliffs. I was inspired by the canyons in the western United States. I enjoy those parts of the country. The quiet, but dangerous nature of the west had an impact on this artwork. The world is depicted in a sci-fi setting on another world far from Earth. Travel seems to be a common theme in my art.

I hope this art can bring others inspiration. Leave a comment below if you like this artwork.
